Monsoon and just after (June through early October) is when these are at their best — most of them slow to a trickle or dry up entirely by peak summer.
Under 50km
- Thottikallu Falls, Kanakapura (~35km) — locally nicknamed the 'golden-faced' falls, strong currents so it's a viewing spot, not a swimming one
- Muthyalamaduvu Falls, Anekal (~40km) — in Pearl Valley, with panoramic hill views and accessible most of the year despite rough approach roads
50-100km
- Chunchi Falls, Kanakapura (~63km) — on the Arkavati river, involves a short trek over slippery rock, best in the monsoon window
- Mekedatu, Kanakapura (~93km) — less a single waterfall than a dramatic gorge where the Kaveri narrows; also popular with cyclists
Worth the longer drive
- Shivanasamudra Falls, Mandya (~130km) — where the Kaveri splits into two separate falls (Gaganachukki and Barachukki), with coracle rides available at Barachukki
- Hebbe Falls, near Chikmagalur (~250km) — reached via a short jeep ride through a coffee estate, worth combining with a Chikmagalur trip rather than a standalone day trip
A practical note: rocks around any of these get slippery fast once wet, and current strength is easy to underestimate. Stick to viewing areas unless a spot is explicitly marked and monitored for swimming.

Most reduce significantly by March-April and stay low until the monsoon returns in June — plan a waterfall day trip for July through early October for the best flow.
