Bengaluru to Vagamon, Kerala
Vagamon is Kerala's quieter hill country: bare, rolling meadows at about 1,100 metres, pine plantations that go dim and still at midday, and ridges that fall away towards the Idukki reservoir. It has none of Munnar's traffic and most of its views.
It is a long drive, so we leave on Friday night and ease into Saturday with breakfast and rest before an off-road jeep run along estate tracks to small falls and valley viewpoints. Sunday covers the classic Vagamon circuit: the meadows, the adventure park, the pine forest and the hilltop at Thangalpara, then the road home.
