Bengaluru to Melkote, Karnataka
Melkote is a quieter kind of pilgrimage town — a hilltop settlement in Mandya district closely tied to the Sri Vaishnava saint Ramanujacharya, who lived here for years, and still one of the least touristy temple destinations within easy reach of Bengaluru.
The plan is simple: the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple and its striking stepped Kalyani tank down in the town, then a climb up to the Yoganarasimha Temple on the hill above for one of the best 360-degree views in the region.

Day 1
Out along the Mysuru expressway and through Mandya's cane fields to Melkote. The stepped Kalyani and Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple come first, then the climb to Yoga Narasimha and a lunch of the town's famous puliyogare.
Pickups begin at RMZ Ecospace. First pickup at RMZ Ecospace, Bellandur, then Banashankari, RR Nagar and Kengeri; exact spots and live location go on the trip WhatsApp group. Wear modest clothing and easy slip-off footwear, and carry water and a cap for the hill climb.
Depart Bengaluru via the Mysuru expressway. A smooth, quick run southwest past Ramanagara's granite outcrops and Channapatna as the sun comes up.
Breakfast stop near Maddur. The town that gave its name to the crisp, onion-flecked Maddur vade. Try it with idli and filter coffee at your own cost.On your own
Arrive Melkote, Kalyani and Raya Gopura. Walk down to the Pancha Kalyani, a broad stepped tank lined with pillared mandapas. Continue to the twin Akka-Tangi tanks and the unfinished Raya Gopura gateway, a short walk away.
Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple. The heart of Melkote, where Ramanujacharya spent about 12 years. Look for the finely carved pillars. Photography is not allowed inside, and weekend morning darshan runs until around 1:30.
Climb to Yoga Narasimha Temple. Roughly 400 stone steps, 20–40 minutes, to the hilltop shrine on Yadugiri. From the top you get sweeping views over the Cauvery plains and the town's tanks below. Morning darshan usually closes by 1:00 on weekdays and 2:00 on weekends.
Lunch in town, puliyogare and pongal. Melkote's Iyengar kitchens are known for tangy puliyogare and sakkare pongal. Local messes near the main temple serve simple vegetarian meals at your own cost.On your own
Free time in the old streets. Wander past the agraharas and Sanskrit institutions, or browse the local handloom weaves before boarding.
Depart for Bengaluru, trip ends ~18:00. Back via Mandya and the expressway with drop-offs at Kengeri, RR Nagar and Banashankari. Sunday evening traffic entering the city decides the final time.
