Bengaluru to Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu
Kodaikanal sits on the Palani Hills at about 2,100 m, wrapped in pine, eucalyptus and shola, and it is cold enough to want a jacket even in summer. This long weekend spends a day around Vattakanal, the little hamlet below town where a forest path leads past a waterfall to the Dolphin's Nose ledge, and follows a quieter trail your trip captain knows. The next day is Kodai's classic circuit: the Pillar Rocks, the rooty ravine of Guna Cave, the pine forest, and sunset by the lake.
On the final morning we head up to the upper Palanis, where Poombarai's terraced garlic fields step down a valley and Mannavanur's lake lies among rolling grassland and grazing sheep. Then it is the long drive home down the ghat and across the plains, reaching Bengaluru late on Monday night.
Day by day

Day 1
An overnight drive across Tamil Nadu brings you up the ghat by breakfast. After a rest, the afternoon is pine woods, a forest walk to the Dolphin's Nose and a quieter trail beyond.
Board the Tempo Traveller (Friday night). First pickup at RMZ Ecospace, Bellandur, then Silk Board and Electronic City (near M5 Mall). Your trip captain runs an icebreaker before lights out; carry a neck pillow for the long night.

Vattakanal Falls and Dolphin's Nose. From Vattakanal, a rocky forest path passes a small waterfall and descends to a flat rock ledge jutting over a deep valley. Echo Point is on the way; the walk back up is steep.
Offbeat forest trail. A short guided walk on a quieter trail away from the main viewpoints, chosen by your trip captain on the day. Shoes with grip matter here.
Dinner at the stay. Dinner together and an early night. Nights here are cold, so keep your warm layers close.
Day 2
Kodaikanal's classic circuit at an unhurried pace: giant granite pillars, a ravine of shola roots, a viewpoint or two and the evening by the lake.
Breakfast at the stay. Eat well; the viewpoints are best early, before the mist rises from the valleys.
Pillar Rocks. Three sheer granite columns about 120 m high, often half hidden by drifting cloud. Wait a few minutes and they tend to reappear.
Guna Cave. A deep cleft once called Devil's Kitchen, reached by a path laced with shola roots and open 09:00 to 16:30. The caves are grilled off, so you look in from the railings.
Moir Point and the forest road. A quiet viewpoint on the forest road with a long look over the hills towards the plains, and a short stroll in the pines around it.
Lunch in town. Pay-as-you-go. Try a bowl of hot soup and home-style bread at a local café.On your own

An early drive into the upper Palanis for terraced farmland at Poombarai and the grasslands of Mannavanur, then the long run home.
Breakfast and check-out. An early breakfast, bags into the Tempo Traveller and we are away.

Mannavanur Lake and grasslands. A still lake among rolling grassland and shola, with the government sheep and rabbit farm nearby. Walk the shore, and wrap up; it is often windy and cold.
Lunch in Kodaikanal. Pay-as-you-go on the way back through town.On your own
