Bengaluru to Gokarna, Murudeshwar and Honnavar, Karnataka
Gokarna is a pilgrim town that happens to have some of the best coast in India. Behind the Mahabaleshwar temple, a cliff path links a string of coves, Kudle, Om, Half Moon and Paradise, each smaller and quieter than the last, with shacks and cafés where the day slows to the pace of the tide.
We arrive on Saturday morning and give the day to the beach trek, the water and the cafés. Sunday runs south to Murudeshwar, where a giant Shiva sits on a headland above the sea, then back north to Honnavar, where the Sharavathi river spreads into mangrove-lined backwaters, before we climb the ghats for home.
